Based on the interview data, we conducted affinity analysis as follows:

  • LiNK's Identity

    • ‘Less is more’

    • Ultimate goal of ‘liberty in North Korea’

  • Varying Users

    • Coming from a variety of sources

    • Skipping educate and engage part

  • Current Site

    • Too much information

    • Usability of website

The key characteristics of the users were captured in the three different types of personas-the pro, anti, and the novice-to guide the design decisions.

Sketches

solution sketch

We invited the stakeholders to the “Sprint!” exercise, in which we shared the key information from the user research and created the rough sketches for the possible solutions. Each of us went through the following process:

  1. Notes

  2. Ideas

  3. Crazy 8s

  4. Solution Sketch

Wireframes

After the thorough reviews of each sketch, we created annotated wireframes to provide a visual guide for the layout, content, interface elements, navigation systems, and overall framework of Our Works, and Why North Korea pages.

With a goal of creating a simple and clean website design to promote user engagement through its website that can be easily managed and updated by a novice web developer staff, we shared the annotated wireframes that reflected the results from the user research, iterative design process, and staffs' feedback.

We also presented our work at 2018 expoSItion at University School of Michigan and won the 1st place in Technology/Design and the honorable mention for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion category.
